Edubuntu Gaining Approval

A computer software known as Edubuntu got added approval as teachers from the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology discovered its usability and practicability through a training provided by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology last April 15-18, 2008.

Professor Maureen Nettie Navarrosa, computer department head of the same college, conducted the four-day training.

The said training pushed through as a prerequisite for the full implementation of the commission’s vision to bridge the gap on the digital divide plaguing the education sector.

Compared with the usual operating systems found in the country, Edubuntu is a freely available computer operating system, thus providing a solution to the already cash-strapped sector.

The operating system already includes a computer software that can do regular tasks needed in doing academic papers and projects.

Teachers added that they can now be more efficient in their job because of the accessibility that the new software offers to their students.
